Thandi Phoenix

The first thing that strikes you about Thandi Phoenix is her voice. Powerful, soulful and honest, her vocals will stop you in your tracks.

At just 24, the Sydney singer-songwriter has been toutedas “one of Australia’s most promising up and comers” (The AUReview), with songs that blend pop with electronica and raw, honest storytelling. Her talents come endorsed by internationals like Jhene Aiko, Tinashe, Rudimental and Tinie Tempah, all of whom have called on Thandi for support slots on their Australian tours.Thandi was called upon by powerhouse Vera Blue, as her main support on her 2017 sold out national run.

Thandi Phoenix’s latest single ‘My Way’, is a drum & bass-flavoured track produced by none other than Rudimental, who heard and fell in love with Thandi’s music on their Australian tour. “It’s pretty mental to have Rudimental do it, because I loved their first album Home so much,” she explains. As she tells it, her lyrics have a message about carving out your own path: “it’s about not conforming to what people want or expect of you. Making yourself happy through what you do, and being proud of yourself with what you do.”

Leon of Rudimental recently spoke of their collaboration and lasting friendship saying,“We first met Thandi in 2015 when we brought her along on our tour of Australia. She killed it man her vocals are amazing! It was a really good opportunity for her to shine and she definitely did. Thandi’s track my way has a lot of Rudimental elements in there you know, it’s got the drum and bass, it’s got the soul vibe to it. It’s got all the ingredients that make you want to jump on it and do something with it and that’s what attracted us to ‘My Way’ as much as it did”.

Thandi’s music is already hitting the right notes: Her previous single ‘Standing Too Close’, combined hints of UK garage and South African house -a sound inspired by Thandi’s own South African heritage. The track was added to full rotation on triple j and held the #1 spot in the Australian Spotify Viral Charts for 3 weeks.

The2016 release ‘Tell Me Where All The Lovers Have Gone’was added to full rotation on Triple J,as well as hitting #1 on Spotify’sAustralian viral charts. Her debut 2015 single ‘Come Around’ scored a personal shout-out from Richard Kingsmill and laid the groundwork for her being named FBi Radio’s Independent Artist of the Week.

Her powerhouse vocal and prowess as an artist have also seen Thandi called on by some of Australia’s biggest talents: performing with Ta-kuand Wafiaat the Sydney Opera House, as well as singing in Just A Gent’sTriple J Like A Version.
