Multi-Platinum Australian artist Illy has made a habit out of defying expectations. His album ‘Two Degrees’ released in November 2016 debuted at #1 on the ARIA chart beating out the likes of Leonard Cohen, Michael Buble and Olivia Newton John. It contained the lead single, 3 x Platinum and 6 x ARIA nominated hit ‘Papercuts (feat. Vera Blue)’, 2 x platinum selling ‘Catch 22 (feat. Anne-Marie)’ and live favourite ‘You Say When (feat. Marko Penn)’.
‘Two Degrees’ album launch shows in November 2016 sold out within days of going on sale. Two tracks featured in the triple j Hottest 100, ‘Papercuts’ coming in at #7 and ‘Catch 22’ at #23. ‘Papercuts’ also won the APRA Award for Urban Work Of The Year. Illy was nominated for 6 2016 ARIA Awards, including Best Male Artist and Song Of The Year. He performed ‘Papercuts’ with Vera Blue at the awards ceremony. A festival favourite in 2016 Illy performed at Australian festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Groovin’ The Moo and Falls Festival throughout the year
Illy started 2017 with a 10 date run of headline shows in Canada, upon his return he commenced The Two Degrees Album Tour which saw him perform to the biggest audiences of his career in sold out theatres around the country. In August he took the Two Degrees Tour to regional Australia. The 40+ date tour included stops at Port Hedland, Launceston, Toowoomba, Cairns, Warrnambool, Newcastle, Mildura and Albury (just to name a few). The tour was a massive success selling over 20,000 tickets and featuring a number of sold out dates. While on the road he made headline festival appearances at Yours and Owls, Sprung and A Weekend in The Gardens. To round out a massive year Illy was nominated for 6 ARIA Awards including Album Of The Year and Best Male Artist.
Illy’s career spans a number of years and 5 albums. He first emerged onto the scene in 2009 with the release of his debut album ‘Long Story Short’. Sophomore album ‘The Chase’ was released in October 2010. It featured well-loved singles ‘Cigarettes’, ‘The Chase’ and the ARIA Gold-selling ‘It Can Wait’. The album took him on two sold out headline tours, an endless list of festival bills and scored both ARIA and AIR Award nominations. In 2013 he released ‘Bring It Back’. The album spawned the singles ‘Heard It All’ and ‘Where Ya Been’ and won the 2013 ARIA Award for Best Urban Album. In November 2013 he released his 4th album Cinematic, It landed at #4 on the ARIA album chart and was his first top 10 debut. The album featured breakout hit ‘Tightrope’ which is certified platinum.
After a year of relentless touring, ARIA nominations and festival appearances, Illy has come a long way since 2009, 2017 has been the biggest year for him yet and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
